Favorite thing about studying a language at K-State: The Modern Languages department at K-State really cares about its students and the classes are lively and fun! There is a real sense of community within the Modern Languages community here at K-State.

Why YOU should major in (language): Knowing more than one language opens you up to so many beautiful opportunities in your life. It expands your future career opportunities and allows for the possibility for you to connect on a deeper level with populations who don’t speak English.

Favorite thing about studying a language at K-State: My Spanish courses at K-State have always been a “get away” from some of my other classes. It  was something I always looked forward to going to. The instructors and professors have all been so much fun and made it enjoyable to learn.

Why YOU should major in (language): Knowing another language in business is a powerful tool that sets you apart from others. Beyond that it also allows the communication with people that sometimes you can’t have.

Anna_segovia
Segovia, Spain, summer 2019

Major: Psychology, Spanish, Art (triple major)

Study abroad: Spain summer program 2019

Favorite thing about studying a language at K-State: The variety of information I learn in my spanish classes is extremely engaging. Every class I have taken has fascinated me with history, art and culture that I would not expect from learning a language.

Why YOU should major in (language): Learning a new language in general is good for your cognitive health as it creates new connections in your brain that makes learning anything easier (my bias as a psych major). A major in a language also looks great on a resume and is a skill that can be used in future jobs!

#ProTip: Study abroad to immerse yourself in a language; your speaking skills will improve exponentially and you will grow as a person while making friends in a whole new country!
